The Ottawa Hub of the Global Shapers Community is proud to introduce you to our 2021 Global Shapers.

Laura Amoi

Laura joins the Ottawa Shapers with the ambition to build on the momentum of a green economic recovery and make impactful change in the community. She currently works in the field of green infrastructure finance for Canadian local governments. She is keen on promoting corporations’ responsibility towards environmental protection and social actions beyond baseline corporate social responsibility.

Laura is a member of the Canadian Olympic Committee and spends her free time volunteering for organizations that promote youth and girls empowerment through sports. She holds a BComm from Rotman Commerce at the University of Toronto and recently completed a Certificate in Climate and Renewable Energy Finance from the Frankfurt School of Finance and Management.

Estelle Ah-Kiow

Driven and passionate about improving the education ecosystem, Estelle Ah-Kiow is currently an Analyst in the Digital Change Sector at the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat. She has previously worked in the fields of media, technology and financial regulatory policy.

From 2010–2015, Estelle was the Co-Director of Strength Within Girls Group (Swiggtalk), a non-profit with a mission of building self esteem and leadership skills in teenage girls. She also served a 4-year term as a publicly-elected School Board Trustee.

Born in Mauritius, a small island in the Indian Ocean, and raised in Mississauga, ON, Estelle is a native French speaker.

Bryan N. Detchou

Bryan N. Detchou is the Special Advisor, Ceremonial and Protocol to the Usher of the Black Rod at the Senate of Canada. Bryan has extensive experience in the fields of politics, policy and parliamentary procedure, having worked in numerous positions both at the House of Commons and the Senate of Canada over the course of his career on Parliament Hill.

Bryan earned an Honours Bachelor’s in Political Science from the University of Ottawa, and a Master’s in World Politics and International Relations from l’Università di Pavia, graduating from both institutions with distinction. While living in Europe, Bryan gained significant experience in International Criminal Law and Human Rights working as a Legal Intern in the Chambers Section at the International Criminal Court (ICC). Bryan is now also a member of the Young Professionals in Foreign Policy, the International Association of Penal Law (Young Penalist), the Canadian Global Affairs Institute and the Canadian International Council.

Now back in Ottawa, Bryan is excited to use his knowledge, his experience and work with the Global Shapers Community to address challenges at the local, regional and global level.

Tommy Han

Tommy Han is a medical student at the University of Ottawa with an interest in advocating for health equity and addressing social determinants of health. He is passionate about starting initiatives aimed at removing social and financial barriers towards accessing healthcare.

Tommy is also the co-founder of Camps for Children, a student-run organization that aims to provide affordable and accessible recreational programs for low-income families.

In his spare time, Tommy is an avid skier and loves to explore new hiking trails around Ottawa. Tommy is excited to collaborate with other Shapers to create meaningful change by tackling regional and global issues.

Gigi Huang

Gigi is currently pursuing a dual master’s degree of MSc in Management specialized in International Business with CEMS Master in International Management (MIM) at Ivey Business School of Western University. She completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Ottawa in Biomedical Science and Psychology.

Growing up with the influence of both Chinese and Canadian cultures, Gigi is passionate about embracing multiculturalism, youth advocacy, and women’s empowerment. She aims to innovate at the intersection of STEM and international business to incite positive changes around the world.

Gigi received the 2015 Ontario Summer Company Award, 2016 Spirit of the Capital Youth Awards in Entrepreneurship, 2020 uOttawa CIBC Mentorship Program Award, and 2021 Ivey MSc Excellence Award. She is an alumna of the Ontario Minister’s Student Advisory Council, Youth Ottawa, Global Vision, Let’s Talk Science, uOGlobal Recognition, YWCA and the Canadian Council for Youth Prosperity.

Emily Prieur

Emily Prieur is a second-year law student at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. Prior to law school, Emily attended the University of Ottawa in the Honours Bachelor of Health Sciences program.

This year Emily had the pleasure of serving clients through Queen’s Business Law Clinic and with Pro-Bono Students Canada. Emily greatly enjoys participating in projects that aim to create positive change in her community in areas she is passionate about. In her spare time, Emily enjoys playing tennis and hiking.

Founded by the World Economic Forum, the Global Shapers Community is a network of inspiring young people under the age of 30 working together to address local, regional, and global challenges. With more than 8,000 members, the Global Shapers Community spans overt 400 city-based hubs in 160 countries.
